I love Chipotle. I’d say, on average, I eat it three times a week. It’s healthy. It’s good. It’s convenient, unless the local high school crowd is doing off-campus lunch, then it’s a nightmare. Also, there is a really hot cashier who works on MWF and I feel like if I go enough she will finally garner the courage to ask me for my number. I’m too shy to do it!
Apparently, eating Chipotle might be a little “dangerous” now that some burritos are possibly chock-full of “E. coli.” The fast-casual chain has already closed 40 stores because of this little mishap, and your local Chipotle might be next.

More than 40 Chipotle restaurants across Oregon and Washington state were closed Saturday after an E. coli outbreak was linked to some of the chain’s locations in those states, according to health officials.
Nineteen E. coli cases in Washington and three in Oregon have been connected to Chipotle, according to the Washington State Department of Health.
“While the outbreak appears to be linked to food served at Chipotle restaurants, the food or other source of contamination hasn’t yet been determined and remains under investigation,” the department said.
Eight of those who got sick were hospitalized, the department said. No one has died as a result of the outbreak.
Doctors are recommending anybody who has felt sick after eating Chipotle in the Pacific Northwest to consult with their doctors, immediately.
Chris Arnold, Chipotle’s communications director, said in a statement that the people who got sick ate at six different Chipotle restaurants. “The safety and wellbeing of our customers is always our highest priority,” he said. “We offer our deepest sympathies to those who have been affected by this situation.”
Once the company was notified of the E. coli outbreak, “we immediately closed all of our restaurants in the area out of an abundance of caution, even though the vast majority of these restaurants have no reported problems,” the statement said.
Man up, losers. E. coli isn’t that bad. It builds character. I don’t see the problem if no one has died yet.
My biggest issue with these news pieces is the incessant need to label Chipotle as a “Mexican restaurant.” A restaurant is not officially “Mexican food” unless it gives you chips and salsa for free. Chipotle does not, because it is its own weird brand of food.
While this news is slightly troubling, it will not affect my 12:30 p.m. afternoon appointment with a burrito bowl later today. At least if it kills me, I’ll die satisfied..
