We reported on this story as breaking news around 12:00 p.m. CST today, November 15, and have since updated it.
There is currently an allegedly armed non-student barricaded in The Harrison, a student apartment complex in Harrisonburg, Virginia near the James Madison University campus.
A JMU student who lives in the barricaded apartment (but is not currently inside) provided JMU’s student-run newspaper with some information about the situation.
From The Breeze:
Update, Tuesday, Nov. 15, 12:35 p.m.: JMU student Mohammed Hussain, a resident of the apartment where the barricaded subject is, just gave The Breeze this account of what happened this morning via text message from The Harrison’s clubhouse:
“Woke up for my 8 a.m. and two people were just talking really loudly and I went to shower and they kept moving around the house. Came to my room saying, ‘Your roommate is a snitch,’ and I wasn’t really paying attention since I was half asleep and went to grab my stuff and leave for class and then got a call in class from the police because they thought I was sleeping in the room but they told me to not go home at the moment since it was a dangerous scene.”
We will update this story as more information becomes known.
It appears the situation is close to being diffused.
From The Breeze:
Update, 1:35 p.m.: Police officers just broke a window in 1173B according to Emma Korynta, the Breeze reporter in the clubhouse. It was a bedroom window.
Rumors have circulated saying that someone was taken out in handcuffs as well as someone leaving the apartment without a struggle, but neither have been confirmed by officials on the scene.
It seems, at the time of this update, that there is only one person left in the apartment.
The suspect is now reportedly in custody.
Here are some photos of the standoff that were sent to TFM by a JMU student.
