Cancel your trip to PCB or Cabo and get on the next flight to Ireland for spring break because crystal meth, ecstasy, and ketamine are all legal for the day.

The legalization of these drugs, among several others, was the result of a loophole that was created when the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1997 was struck down as unconstitutional on an appeal this morning. Because all good things must come to an end, the Irish government is in the process of passing emergency legislation to reinstate the drug laws. However, it has to pass through both houses and be signed into law by the president, which won’t happen until Thursday morning, totaling an approximate 37 hours of legal meth.

I thought this Irish reporter summed up the story pretty well:

It is legal to buy and possess these drugs and other drugs that give “legal highs” (whatever the fuck that means) but it’s illegal to sell, supply, import, or export them. So, just know your dealer is the only one breaking the law, not you. Weed, cocaine, and heroin are still illegal though, but when has that ever stopped you?

I’m thinking it is full-blown anarchy in Ireland right now. Everyone’s going to ditch his or her Guinness to go hunt for some “Lucky Charms.” Beer sales will be down. There will probably be a baby boom because everyone’s going to want to fuck each other. I imagine that World Cup commercial with the nurses in a crowded maternity ward asking each other what happened nine months ago, then it flashes back to a bunch of Irish people tripping balls and listening to EDM. Thousands will be lost searching for pots of gold at the end of rainbows and leprechaun sightings are undoubtedly going to increase.

With St. Patrick’s Day only a week away, the timeliness could be a little better; however, that shouldn’t stop you from buying crystal meth in a back alley in Cancun next week, because you should celebrate the Irish holiday with as much authenticity as possible, despite wearing a sombrero and drinking tequila.
