Five Phi Gams from the University of Alabama (the Bama chapter doesn’t like being called Fijis) were arrested Wednesday on hazing charges following an investigation by the school into allegations that the fraternity members made pledges stand in buckets of ice and salt.

From NBC News:

Colter K. Anderson, 21, of Dallas, Texas; John Patrick Buckley, 21, of Houston, Texas; Hunter Lee Wagner, 20, of Huntsville, Alabama; and Richard E. Markwalter, 20, also of Huntsville, each face three hazing charges. Mark Allen Powers, 20, of Athens, Alabama, faces one hazing charge.

The university has additionally placed interim sanctions on Phi Gamma Delta that include no social events or new member activities.

Really shocking stuff. I mean, who would have guessed that my brothers over in Tuscaloosa were so progressive and metrosexual? I certainly didn’t peg them as the “pedi” type back when I visited junior year. Not that it makes them bad people. Dudes just really care about their feet. We’ve come too far and made too many strides in the right direction as a society for the university and local law enforcement to be so intolerant of guys getting cosmetic treatments. Pedicures aren’t illegal, you small-minded bigots.

“But doesn’t ice and salt create a chemical reaction that causes burning?”

Yeah, you philistine, but beauty is pain. It’s a deep clean. Plus a discolored spot here or there beats walking around like Bilbo fucking Baggins.
