Nice Move

Few people know about House Park barbecue.

It’s tucked away in central Austin, where it’s been standing for fifty-plus years. It’s so traditional that it only recently started accepting credit cards. If you eat inside, you have the option to sit on anything from a fold out chair to a worn out office spinning chair. It is just a really cool Texas spot.

As a long-time customer of House Park, I can vouch for its delicious barbecue. The chopped beef sandwich is so good I usually get one to go when I leave and eat it for dinner. The guys who work there are really cool and aren’t afraid to start a conversation with you about anything from Texas football to the best kind of moonshine in the south.

They recently released this video and I thought I’d share because it’s awesome:

One thing you’ll see in Austin today is a shift from traditional barbecue to new-age hipster barbecue. It isn’t bad, but it really isn’t Austin. Find somebody in town who will tell you Franklin’s is the best barbecue spot in the city and I’ll tell you the same person probably hasn’t lived here for over eight years. Hell, Franklin’s isn’t even a decade old.

The best barbecue in town needs a story behind it. House Park has that story.

This guy, who was a fraternity member at Texas, is following his dream and the dream of his father. He is also rocking the best facial hair in town. No other barbecue joint can top that.
