Texas A&M & Missouri Moving to the SEC

How will these football programs compete with the SEC? Thoughts?

  1. Oh, dude, A&M is fucked big time. In the butt. You shouldn’t need Todd McShay to tell you that. I think the biggest problem with A&M are the expectations. Mizzou fans just hope to one day be middle of the pack while A&M aspires to steal Texas recruits and be a nationally prominent program (lolz) . Realistically, in the long term I can see A&M on par with the likes of Mississippi State and Auburn, or in other words, no better than the 4th best team in the SEC west.

  2. Well A&M will never beat Arkansas, LSU, or Alabama. It will be a good game with MSU this year. Ole Miss may be able to hang with A&M early but won’t be able to close. Missouri might be able to beat Kentucky and Vandy but that’s about it.

Never beat Arkansas? Okay, I hate A&M, but thats too far. They are rivals, and that game last year came down to the very, very end at 38-42.

  4. Of course I don’t mean never in a million years but Arkansas leads 41–24–3 in the “Southwest Classic” and I don’t see that changing anytime in the near future.

Yeah I agree A&M’s fucked. They had never had a shot of winning out of the Big 12 what make’s em think they can win in the SEC.

You’re equating Miss St. and AU? Are you that retarded?

  7. It’s like this. A&M will be to the SEC what KU is to the Big 12. And yes, I’m a die hard KU fan and football season sucks for me, usually.

  8. I can see A&M becoming a strong team in the SEC. They should be able to recruit better, and they used to be a strong team. Kyle field is a very tough place to play, and I think that will give them an edge when they get better. If they improve, I see them being in the top 5 of the SEC, which shouldn’t be too difficult to do, but definitely not playing for the conference championship.
As for Missouri, they have been and will forever be a very mediocre football team. Especially in the SEC, they will be lucky if they get in the top 5 of the SEC. I mean they never won a Big 12 championship, and everytime they made it to the game they got slaughtered. SEC just has too many strong programs for Mizzou to do well.

  9. aTm hasn’t beaten an SEC team since 1995.

Mizzou is 20-8-1 against current SEC members. Probably doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it never hurts to have stats on your side. Four of Mizzou’s current losses to SEC teams fall to aTm, which Mizzou has beaten aTm 4 of the last 5 meetings — 2 of them being at College Station.

I think I have to agree with TJ Moe when he said that there are only a few really good programs in the SEC. Florida, Alabama, LSU, and Georgia. Mizzou killed Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl a few years back when McFadden was still playing for the Razorbacks. I’ve said for the longest time that teams in the SEC are considered good by association with the league. They get biased rankings because they “beat up on each other” when, other leagues with teams who finish 7-5 end up ranked lower or not ranked at all.

  10. I give A&M 3 years before they are any good in the SEC (Huge fan base, and they can get more 5 stars by now saying they are in the SEC) and Mizzou is the next Kentucky

  11. Simply put, Texas A&M and Missouri are not ready for the SEC. Nothing personal against these two schools, but given their record in Big 12 championship games (A&M 1-1, Missouri 0-2), they will experience a very difficult climb to Atlanta. If these two teams weren’t able to claim league supremacy over Oklahoma, Texas, and Nebraska, what makes you think they’ll do the same (or better) against Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Georgia?

Texas A&M and Missouri will be middle of the road SEC teams like Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas, and South Carolina. 7-5 seasons, an appearance in the SEC championship game every 10 years, and if they’re lucky, a 10 win season. Nevertheless, they still won’t be able to break upper tier.

Also, look at how long it took South Carolina & Arkansas to build up their programs in the SEC. Almost 15 years!
