Ben Simmons is a phenomenal basketball player. He is also not the best at academics, but when you hold a golden ticket to stardom in the NBA, does it really matter? Unfortunately for him, his sub 2.0 GPA is what’s keeping him from being a candidate for the John Wooden award, which is awarded to the college basketball player of the year.

The low GPA prompted Kentucky fans to chant “GPA…GPA…GPA” at Simmons during their matchup Saturday in which the ‘Cats won easily over the Tigers. The low GPA will not make Simmons ineligible for the remainder of the season, according to LSU senior associate communications director Kent Lowe. In a recent interview with USA Today, Simmons admitted that he may have missed a few classes.

“I think it was just little things like missing a couple of classes and things like that,” Simmons said Monday. “And then it gets brought up. If it was somebody else, it may not have been brought up. Now, it’s one of those things that’s everywhere. But I’m not worried about that right now.”

Literally none of this will matter when he walks across that stage on draft day, and no one will remember it, either. Kid’s about to be rich.
