Map Shows The Winningest College Football Programs In The Nation By State

Nice Move

After two weeks of the college football season, your team may no longer still be “in”–anchor down, indeed, Vanderbilt. However, just because your school or conference (Big Ten) has already mailed in the season, it doesn’t mean you can’t be proud of your team, at least historically. Thanks to our friends at eCollegeFinder, we now have this gem of a map, which breaks down the winningest programs by state.

3134

The “winningest” schools are determined by the amount of total wins in program history. Clearly some schools had a bit of a jump start on others.

So who cracked the top 10?

  1. Michigan – Michigan Wolverines – 911 wins
  2. Connecticut – Yale Bulldogs – 876 wins
  3. Texas – Texas Longhorns – 876 wins
  4. Indiana – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – 875 wins
  5. Nebraska – Nebraska Cornhuskers – 866 wins
  6. Ohio – Ohio State Buckeyes – 849 wins
  7. Oklahoma – Oklahoma Sooners – 843 wins
  8. Alabama – Alabama Crimson Tide – 839 wins
  9. Massachusetts – Harvard Crimson – 838 wins
  10. Pennsylvania – Penn Quakers – 828 wins

Now by division. No surprise in North Dakota.

  1. Division I FBS – 33 schools
  2. Division I FCS – 13 schools
  3. Division II – 1 school
  4. Division III – 1 school

Here’s the conference breakdown. It should be noted that Ivy League schools had, like, a 100-year start on everyone else. I’m exaggerating, but not by much.

  1. Southeastern Conference – 9 schools
  2. Ivy League – 6 schools
  3. Pacific-12 Conference – 6 schools
  4. Big Ten Conference – 5 schools
  5. Atlantic Coast Conference – 4 schools
  6. Big 12 Conference – 4 schools
  7. Colonial Athletic Association – 3 schools
  8. Missouri Valley Football Conference – 3 schools
  9. Mountain West Conference– 3 schools
  10. Big Sky Conference – 2 schools
  11. Independent – 2 schools
  12. Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association – 1 school
  13. New England Small College Athletic Conference – 1 school

And, of course, here are the winners for each state.
