The Bill Belichick of college football is already in midseason form, saying that he is not pleased with Alabama’s absolute destruction of the USC Trojans.
“If you want to know the truth about it, I wasn’t pleased with the way we played,” Saban said following the game. “… My focus with our team right now is: What can we do better? How can we get better? How can every guy improve? How can we get more guys to play better?”
He went on to say that he didn’t want to be misconstrued as being unhappy with his team and did acknowledge the importance of the win, but you know he’s pissed that Alabama didn’t leave it all on the field and drop 70. He’ll be having nightmares about the six points Southern Cal put on the board, and he’ll have a lot of anger to take out on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers next week. People may be quick to prematurely crown Alabama as the champions after this convincing win, but it appears that their minds are in the right place going forward.
What else does this game mean? I’m a huge PAC-12 guy, but holy shit. Don’t look now, but this game might have just made the whole conference irrelevant this year. They just posted a disappointing 7-5 week one record, and Alabama’s bludgeoning of USC was a huge dagger into the heart of the conference. I can watch footage of my beloved Utah beating Alabama in the ’09 Sugar Bowl all I want, but I would piss myself if we had to play the Tide this year.
You’re officially on notice, rest of the country. Nick Saban’s team will drop 52 against you and lament that they didn’t do more damage..
