San Francisco State University is investigating an on-campus incident after a video surfaced of two students getting into an argument over a student’s hair. The video purportedly shows a black student confronting a white student about his dreadlocks, telling him he can’t have that hairstyle because it’s her culture.
Strap in, because we’re about to take a ride to crazy town. Sorry, I mean, trigger warning:
The absolute nerve of this white guy and his damn dreadlocks. He should know white guys with dreads are right up there with KKK hoodies, lynch mobs, Mexican sombreros, cowboy boots, Italian food day in the cafeteria…
Let’s break this confrontation down from the beginning:
“You got some scissors?” the woman asks her male friend.
“You’re saying I can’t have a hairstyle because of your culture?” the student she’s confronting asks. “Why?”
“Yeah, because it’s my culture,” the woman says.
That’s an airtight argument right there. Just the other day I punched a white guy in the face for eating a taco. Why should he be able to eat that taco? That’s my culture. I didn’t give him permission to eat that taco! That should hold up in court.
“Did you know it was in Egyptian culture?” dread dude asks. “Are you Egyptian? You’re not.”
“Wait, where’s Egypt?” she asks. “Tell me.”
The correct answer (to get to the Pyramids of Giza) is 29.976480 latitude and 31.131302 longitude. However, I’m guessing she wanted him to answer “Africa” instead. Geographically, Egypt is in Africa, although culturally many identify it as Mediterranean, Middle Eastern or Islamic. Apparently, the guy never considered her Mediterranean background.
White guy never passed her geographical test. 2-0 good guys.
“Why are you filming this,” the woman asks.
“For everyone’s safety,” the camera guy says.
“WAPTFFFF,” the camera says as the woman tries to smack it out of the camera guy’s hand.
Yeah, that’s right. Fuck your camera and your campus safety bullshit! Trying to have video evidence of a confrontation so that it can be reviewed in a timely and sensible manner? HA! My “I was offended” claim will go much further than facts and information!
SF State has since released a statement in response to the confrontation:
We are aware of the video made of an incident which occurred on campus yesterday afternoon. University police were called to the scene of the incident when it occurred. The two individuals involved in the incident are not San Francisco State University employees. Further, no criminal charges have been pressed at this time to the University’s knowledge.
San Francisco State University promotes the rights of the campus community to engage in free speech, but does not condone behavior that impedes the safety or well-being of others. We are taking the matter seriously and will promptly and thoroughly investigate this incident through applicable University channels, including our campus student conduct procedures.
KRON reports even though the video uploaded to YouTube identifies the woman as a campus employee, that’s not the case.
I just hope this guy doesn’t have a geography test coming up about countries located in northern Africa. Wait, would the teacher giving out that test have to be from northern Africa too?.
