Over 150 American universities have helped to produce Olympic medal winners. From Kansas in basketball to Florida in swimming, our collegiate athletic programs are powerhouses that help develop some of the best athletes in the world. But which, of all the incredible athletic programs, have flourished and given us medal after medal, Olympics after Olympics? Which program can claim their athletes have brought home gold more than any other school? We tallied medal counts and athletes’ college affiliations from the very first summer games in 1896 through 2012, and the results are in. Here are the 25 schools that have brought home the most gold medals in the history of the Summer Olympic Games.
