Nice Move

I just felt like golfiiing…

Luke Bielawski, a 24-year-old law school student from Indiana, will tee off from the beach in Ventura, CA early next week. He’ll be aiming eastward towards South Carolina, and he’s not stopping until he chips one into the Atlantic, Cosmo Kramer-style.

His cross-country golfing journey will be an effort to raise “awareness and donations to benefit students at Providence Cristo Rey High School in Indianapolis.” Luke has dubbed his daunting golf trek “From Tee to Shining Tee,” and he expects to raise $100,000 “to pay for a dozen scholarships to the small Catholic school that caters to underprivileged kids.”

A worthwhile cause indeed. It’s not surprising, though. Golf is a gentlemen’s game after all.

From USA Today:

Before it’s over, the self-professed golf nut will swing the club about 48,000 times, whacking at about 3,600 golf balls — most of which he expects to lose along the way to the sands of the desert, the fenced ranches of Texas or the wet marshes of Mississippi.

Driving a donated John Deere Gator, Bielawski will tee off daily at sunrise, move at a 19-minute-per-mile pace, and swing until sunset.

A par 48,000, huh? I’m pretty sure I’d have no problem birdying this bad boy. Hell, with my short game completely out of the equation, I could eagle the United States. And if Luke wants to at least par it, he better not take anywhere near the 3,600 drops that he’s already planned for. That’s a ridiculous number.

What happens if he gets the shanks around Louisiana or Mississippi? His arms are going to feel like telephone poles while he’s laying 30,000 or so. Going to be tough to keep solid form at that point. That could throw this whole operation awry. A beer cart girl would sure help keep him loose, though.

“When we get into the heat of the Southwest, we will probably take a break,” he said.

Come on. Don’t be a bitch, Bielawski.

Here’s the route he’ll be taking:

Play it as it lies, Bielawski.
