The first Independence Day is one of my all-time favorites. The world uniting to stave off an unrelenting alien force, the president delivering one of the most hype speeches in any movie, and the underdog alcoholic who they almost didn't let fly saving the day at the end. It's a classic.
It's been 20 years since the original, and now the aliens are back for more. In the premiere trailer for the long-awaited sequel, Jeff Goldblum explains that humanity has adapted its technology using what the aliens left behind from the first attack, but our upgraded weaponry won't be enough to stop the regrouped and pissed off second wave. Will we be able to halt the resurgence? For sure. Does the movie's predictability make me any less excited to see some cities get demolished and some aliens get murked in breathtaking CGI? Not one bit.
