Legendary Alabama football coach Nick Saban has cemented himself as one of the greatest coaches of all-time in any sport, but he still can’t really cook on the grill.

That is just one of the many interesting things we learn watching Auburn icon and Pulitzer-deserving journalist Charles Barkley sit down with Saban. The two Alabama stars had an enjoyable conversation that *almost* humanized ole Saint Nick. Nothing will ever convince me that he isn’t the spawn of Satan.

I like the two-seat barrier in-between these guys. I’m sure it was set up that way to make it easier to film, but it also plays to the overwhelming awkwardness of the whole thing.

Saban talks about life outside of being a football coach, including how he wishes he was more attentive to his children when they were young. You can almost guarantee that Saban probably missed every single one of his children’s recitals and Little League games because he was in the office watching film. That quick humanizing moment is immediately followed with his refusal as a grandfather to change his grandchildren’s diapers. He’s Nick Saban. He doesn’t do that.

Saban is also like Kim Jong-un on the basketball court. He plays a lot of pick-up ball, but always as the point guard and he determines who on the other team is allowed to guard him. When asked what happens if someone commits a hard foul on him, Saban “jokingly” said they would get fired.

Saban doesn’t mention it on camera, but I’m pretty sure he makes Lane Kiffin drop off and pick up his dry-cleaning on game days.

The whole interview is definitely worth your time. We are now 26 days away from college football. It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

“The only thing good about golf is drinking and smoking.” — Charles Barkley, the legend.
