Situated between the water and the Caribbean’s most famous runway, Maho Beach is known for incredible views of planes departing and arriving onto St. Maarten. People flock from across the island to hang out at one of the beach bars next to Maho and watch airplanes as large as 747s nearly miss their heads as they approach the only runway long enough for airliners in St. Maarten:
Occasionally, you can watch very stupid people with nice asses, who think they are strong enough to withstand the engine blasts of passenger jets, get blown face first into concrete walls:
While it’s easy not to be an idiot like the person above, sometimes it feels like a plane is coming in too low. These jets look graceful on approach, but they are really giant flying metal tubes full of flammable gasoline that could turn a spring break party on Maho into a bloody massacre that would make the Normandy beaches blush.
That’s why this recent video of oblivious spring breakers narrowly avoiding being flattened by a small airliner is slightly horrifying.
That plane barely makes the runway, nearly clipping the fence as it avoids slamming into hundreds of drunk tourists. The margin of error here is so minuscule that watching this plane approach, a betting man would have 50/50 odds that this particular flight is about to be an international disaster.
If you’re going to St. Maarten for spring break and would like to avoid the disgusting nude beaches on the French side, chill at one of the many Maho beach bars and watch spring breakers gamble with their lives for a couple moments every hour. It probably won’t be as thrilling as the landing above, but it’s definitely worth seeing hot girls getting blown around by jet engines..
