Politics are all about moves and counter moves.
In this instance, it is the lack of a move, securing a highly searchable domain name, that has come to haunt the Jeb Bush campaign. It appears if you visit “www.JebBush.com,” you are automatically redirected to Donald Trump’s campaign homepage. Excellent troll move.
From The Hill:
The long-standing feud between Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump and GOP rival Jeb Bush escalated on Monday, with a site with the former Florida governor’s name redirecting to Trump’s campaign website homepage.
A site with the domain name JebBush.com redirects to the real estate mogul’s official presidential campaign page, donaldjtrump.com, and features Trump’s slogan with options to support or donate to his campaign.
Bush’s official presidential campaign page uses the domain name Jeb2016.com.
The Daily Caller reported Monday that JebBush.com is registered to Fabulous.com PTY Ltd., which manages domain names, and noted that the website was updated on Nov. 21.
Two other domain names that incorporate Bush’s name and the word president already exist but aren’t operated by his campaign.
JebBushforPresident.com is a blog about a gay couple who owns the website and JebBushforPresident.net is used to oppose Bush’s record. That website says it was updated on Dec. 7.
This is clearly a major oversight by the Bush campaign, and someone either affiliated or unaffiliated with the Trump campaign, took advantage in a pretty hilarious way. Political rivalries are always fun, and watching Trump and Bush go back and forth with each other has been one of the highlights of this campaign.
I’ve always wondered what their interactions are like, off-screen. Do you think they are cordial? It feels like most of the GOP candidates get along pretty well, and that Donald would be the only guy who would probably be unlikable in private. (Though, I’ve heard he is actually an incredibly nice guy off camera, too.) Trump’s campaign team has done a good job trolling other candidates on Instagram, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they were behind this move. My favorite video they put online was the one of Ben Carson on Halloween, which is below:
Trump seems like he would be a fun dude to get a beer with, but I bet Jeb is cooler. Donald would probably be one of those guys who hogs a conversation and then tunes out immediately when anybody else chimes in. Jeb seems like he would be down to shotgun beers with you, if he could manage to keep it off camera.
Another A+ troll job by future President Trump and his Trump minions. I’m excited for 12 more months of this stuff..
