Old fraternity documentaries are always a real treat. Whether it’s Sigma Chi Beer Frisbee ’86 or The Real Animal House, they always reaffirm one thing: our world really hasn’t changed much. I recently stumbled across a new video, and it’s the first one that really showcases awkward ’90s frat.
(I hope the shorts seen at the 2-minute mark weren’t the Norts of their time and never make a comeback)
This video was filmed in 1990 so the grunge obviously hadn’t completely settled in, but you can still see the blurred transition from ’80s gear to awkward ’90s frat. Look at those fucking swoop-mullet-hybrids around 4 minutes and 20 seconds in. That was the hairstyle of choice for the young ’90s oil tycoon and the extreme TFTC rocker. I guarantee there was a lot of weird late-night head banging going on at their house, even if the soundtrack to this video is Genesis “Just a Job To Do.” I kept waiting for Eddie Vedder to walk out and be like, “What’s up, gnar?”
