Dave Chappelle Is Finally Making A Comeback

Let’s cut to the chase — Dave Chappelle is the greatest comic alive. Why does he triumph over the competition? Let’s break it down. Richard Pryor is dead. George Carlin is dead. Bill Cosby is Satan. Louis C.K. is the white Bill Cosby (look it up if you wanna barf). Eddie Murphy made Norbit.

Who does that leave us with? David Matthew Chappelle. His middle name isn’t actually Matthew; I don’t know why I said that.

Chappelle famously walked away from a $50 million deal after the 3rd season of his legendary eponymous TV show, choosing to spontaneously move to Africa and escape from the spotlight. Some called it a mental breakdown. Others just called it a man fed up with the infinite bullshit of the entertainment industry. Other others called it a Rumspringa (they were Amish).

He’s moved back to America since (he currently resides in rural Ohio), but he’s been relatively quiet this past decade. He’s famously a recluse; in that sense, he’s like the J.D. Salinger of comedy (that’s literally the only literary reference I know, so I’m gonna pull a Jeb Bush and politely request that you please clap for me).

Well, much to our delight, it looks like Dave is finally returning to the limelight. A few weeks ago, Chappelle hosted Saturday Night Live and gave a phenomenal opening monologue that was both hilarious and powerful. Furthermore, Netflix (the reason TV is suffering and your girlfriend stopped working out) recently dropped an epic bombshell on us and announced that they made a deal to release 3 new stand-up specials from Chappelle. One of them was recorded on his most recent tour, and the other 2 are ones that he recorded in the past but decided to keep in the vault. The Bigfoot of comedy is back (referencing J.D. Salinger twice in one column felt pretentious)!

Last month, Netflix also made a deal with Chris Rock for 2 new specials for $20 million each (!!!!!!!), which means another comedy legend will be returning to the stage. With everything going on in the world lately, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. It’ll be a good feeling to hear their takes on things and get some laughs.

No date has been announced yet, but we’ll keep our eyes open.
