PGA Tour Pro Grayson Murray, pictured above after he lost one of his front teeth while eating a chicken leg, just can’t stay out of the golf headlines when it comes to who he has manning his bag. Last month, we covered his plan to employ model Lindsey Pelas as his caddie at the Masters Par 3 Contest should he have qualified (he didn’t, but at least he shot his shot). Now, word’s out that Murray fired his real caddie, Mike Hicks halfway into his final round at the Wells Fargo Championship yesterday.
According to a WRAL report, Murray fired caddie Mike Hicks mid-round Sunday at the Wells Fargo Championship after they got into an altercation on the ninth hole at Eagle Point Golf Club.
According to WRAL’s Aaron Schoonmaker, “Hicks then dropped the bag and handed his smock to a replacement caddie selected by Murray from outside the ropes.”
Murray, who was coming off a bogey on the 8th hole, bogeyed three holes after his incident with Hicks. He finished four over and tied for 63rd. Murray was two shots off the lead after 36 holes, but he shot 76-76 on the weekend.
There can be only one explanation (aside from Grayson wanting to blame his choke job on someone besides himself): after a failed Masters invite bid, Murray decided to quit letting fate be the arbiter when it came to who could and could not be his course assistant by forcibly creating a caddie job opening for Lindsey Pelas to fill. It makes so little sense that it makes all the sense in the world. Don’t be surprised if he hits her up on Twitter again sometime this week. I’m calling it now. Forget “Hottest PGA WAGs” lists; 2017 is the year of the hot caddie, and Grayson Murray is this movement’s champion.
This guy’s a loose cannon and the most outrageous dude to hit the pro golf circuit in a while. Watch out for him (I mean that in the precautionary way)..
