In a bit of elitist fun before the Harvard-Yale football game this Saturday, a group of Harvard students went down to New Haven, Connecticut, to get a jumpstart in hazing their rival. They offered up faux-Yale tours, to which many unsuspecting tourists voluntarily attended. The video, put out by On Harvard Time, is really funny and highlights the aspects of a rivalry exceptionally well, by being as condescending as humanly possible to a school with a little brother complex.
What’s particularly funny is how all of the people following his god-awful tour don’t realize that they’re being trolled. Here are some examples of what they are learning:
“US News & World Report have Harvard and Princeton usually at about a pretty solid one or two [ranking]. Yale fluctuates between three and around fifteen.”
“Even if you don’t like drinking, there is a lot of things you can do here. We have terrific WiFi.”
“Yale is in many ways, Harvard’s little, perhaps less accessible, sister.”
“Yale students are stupider than Harvard students. Yale students are not as successful than Harvard students. Yale students are not as attractive as Harvard students.”
And yet, these people continue on with the tour. Likely to have spent hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars to visit one of the most prestigious universities in the country, the tourists seem completely unaware that their entire afternoon was a waste of time.
It’s a great prank and I’m excited to see how Yale plans to counter it. Probably by getting the shit beat out of them by Harvard’s football team, who have only lost one game.
