To say that the Windy City has turned its back on quarterback Jay Cutler would be an understatement. After chalking up a 1:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio over the past two weeks, Bears fans want the head of Vanderbilt’s finest to be served up on a silver platter.
Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler might officially be the most hated man in the Windy City — because last night, one of Chicago’s most storied sports legends turned his back on the guy … TORCHING Cutler’s jersey inside a bar.
The video was shot inside Stanley’s Kitchen and Tap in Downtown Chicago — showing Chicago Blackhawks legend Chris Chelios lighting Jay’s jersey on fire while some hot chick dangles it from her fingers. One source inside the bar tells us Chris lit the jersey then said, Cutler’s “nothing but a bitch.”
Mind you, this is the same city that self-mutilates itself anytime its beloved Cubbies come up in conversation. Merely bringing up the words “1908,” “Bartman,” or “Billy Goat” will leave a Chicago resident mimicking Harry Caray- foaming at the mouth, pale in the face, speaking incoherently, and unable to feel his or her left arm. But even the Loveable Losers have never driven their fans to impromptu bonfires.
I mean, you REALLY have to enrage a city to get them to go all Guy Fawkes Night on your bottom. That’s a special level of hatred, usually reserved for guys like LeBron, or any team that happens to play in Los Angeles.
And since it was “Cheli” who was behind this jersey burning incident it is inevitable that this family-friendly activity will spread like wildfire (PUNS). The guy’s a legend in that town, on par with Ditka and Jordan. How loved is Chris Chelios in Chicago? He jumped ship to Hockeytown, USA to play for the Hawks’ big brother archrival, and they STILL worship him.
If I were Jay Cutler, I wouldn’t know whether I should fear for my safety, or just laugh the whole incident off.
On second thought, we all know the answer to that question: DOOOONNNNTTTT CAAAARRRREEEE.
