Jay Cutler. TFTC.

SOUTH CAROLINA.—As I drunkenly stumbled out of The Silver Dollar on King Street shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday morning, I had no idea that a few hours later I would witness something in the NFC Championship game between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers that would result in nationwide hysteria among sports fans. I’m referring of course to the now infamous Jay Cutler debacle.

As I was lying in my bed recovering from the previous night’s drunken escapades, Cutler came out of the game with a knee injury that later turned out to be an MCL sprain. Now, I’m sure like many of you, my initial reaction was to say, “You pussy! You don’t sit out of the game with this much at stake!” I was further incensed by Cutler seeming to lack interest as he sat on the sideline. Before long everyone in the world was calling Cutler out, and questioning his work ethic, toughness, character, etc.

But, I began to question myself and others as the night wore on. I thought back to my days as a football player, and I recalled the days that followed my own knee sprain. It was nothing too serious, and it didn’t cause me a great deal of physical pain when I wasn’t moving around on it heavily. But, I sure as shit couldn’t play on it for a few days. As I said, the pain wasn’t very severe, but the weakening of the knee and the lost range of mobility made it so that I couldn’t play on it.

Applying my own experiences to the Jay Cutler situation, I finally realized that no player in his right mind is going to voluntarily sit out in that situation. I tell you all the same thing: Cutler didn’t quit. He really couldn’t go. I believe that, and I really don’t care to hear anything to the contrary, because the fact is none of us were there, and none of us can know. But Cutler’s teammates, coaches and even his opponents went to bat for him after the game saying he didn’t quit. I’ll take their word over any other player on Twitter, ESPN or NFL Network analysts.

(As an aside, it should also be noted that Cutler has Type 1 Diabetes, which he found out about after entering the NFL. The severity of that illness is quite often understated, and the fact that he keeps himself in good enough health to perform as a top-tier professional athlete is remarkable in and of itself. I know I probably couldn’t do it. He’s far from a quitter.)

However, that’s not the real issue here- at least not for me. The issue, in my opinion, is why the people in this country love to hate Jay Cutler so much. Where does all of this animosity come from? Well folks, I offer this simple answer. It’s because Jay Cutler is FaF, and everyone criticizing him is a jealous GDI.

Think about this for a moment. First, it must be pointed out that Cutler is a Greek alumnus from Vanderbilt. Secondly, Cutler’s always been sort of brash, saying most anything that he believes, regardless of whom it might offend. He thinks he’s great. All in all, Cutler is everything that the outside world hates Greeks for. We’re cooler than everyone else, and we’re arrogant. So is Cutler, and that’s why people hate him. That, people, is where all of this animosity is coming from that’s being directed toward him.

So, when I saw Kentucky WildFrat’s post on TFM earlier that said, “Jay Cutler. TFTC,” I knew that at least some of you understand and empathize with our Greek brother as he undergoes these assaults from the rest of the jealous GDIs in the NFL. But, of course, I then saw the comments following Kentucky WildFrat’s post wherein several people called Cutler a pussy. It’s you folks who need to understand Cutler and quit judging the guy like a bunch of geeds. It’s not his fault he’s awesome. No need to hate the man and call him a quitter just because he’s TFTC.
