Louisville Bans Themselves From Postseason For Using Prostitutes To Recruit

Louisville will be missing March Madness this year, something that hasn’t happened since 2006. With an 18-4 record, the team was projected to be the fifth seed in the NCAA tournament. Coach Rick Pitino was taken aback as he wasn’t expecting the ban this year.

From ESPN:

Louisville has imposed a one-year postseason ban for its men’s basketball team amid the NCAA’s ongoing investigation into an alleged recruiting scandal at the school.

The school announced the sanctions at a news conference Friday afternoon. University president James R. Ramsey acknowledged that it was “reasonable to conclude violations have occurred in the past.”

Back in October, we covered the alleged recruiting practices that former escort Katrina Powell published in her book, “Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen.” The book talks about nearly 24 parties that occurred between 2010 and 2014 and were held in a campus dorm for athletes and other students. She alleges that Andre McGee organized the parties and paid her $10,000 for providing dancers. Besides the parties, Powell talks about additional “side deals” where McGee paid more cash for dancers to have sex with recruits, guardians who attended the school visit with them, and some active players. Coach Pitino has denied any knowledge of the parties, and Andre McGee hasn’t been a part of the Cardinal’s coaching staff since he left in 2014.

That’s like something out of a Blue Mountain State episode. In the pilot, Moran is greeted at his dorm by two bombshells in lingerie on behalf of the “boosters”. Or later in the series, when Thad believes the best way to recruit the legendary Golden Arm is to give him his pick of booze, blow, and babes. The key difference between BMS and Louisville is that Coach Daniels had the Dean wrapped around his balls and would have found a way to get another championship.

The postseason ban comes in the wake of four separate investigations into the basketball program and will also apply to the ACC tournament.
