New York Brewery Makes Giant Christmas Tree Using 428 Kegs

New York Brewery Embraces The Holiday Spirit, Makes Giant Christmas Tree From Kegs

Decorating the house for the holidays is a tradition that goes back to the earliest days of Greek life. The actives do the planning, the pledges or recent initiates do the heavy lifting, things come together, and you have a beautiful house decked out in Christmas spirit. Another common Christmas tradition on Greek Row is decorating your tree with unconventional ornaments. Beer cans, liquor bottles, and a variety of other unusual items always find their way onto the chapter tree.

Beer related Christmas decorating isn’t just our game, though. It starts right at the source. The Genesee Brew House in Rochester, New York, is taking things up a notch. We’ve all seen keg stacks before, which sometimes get impressively (and dangerously) high, but the folks at Genesee definitely went the extra mile.

Using 428 empty kegs, they created a stack that comes in around 26-feet high. In addition to the 11 layers of kegs, there are also stands of lights and an electrical Genesee bar sign on the top. It’s a classic play on the “Beeramid” that I’m sure many of you have made before, except, you know, this is with kegs instead of cans.

I like it. I like it a lot.

This isn’t their first time making a “tree” like this, but it’s their biggest yet. I’m hoping this is a trend and that we can expect an even bigger one next year. One-upping is, after all, part of the American way of life.
