The Lions lost a close game against a good team, and Carson Wentz looked like the best and worst quarterback of all time…football really is back. The Lions come into this matchup after a game against the Eagles in which they would have won if a few things went their way…and they DIDN’T onside kick. Jared Goff played like Jared Goff, and their run defense would have given up a hundred yards to the fifth-grade team that played on the field during halftime, but there were many positives. D’Andre Swift, who people that actually watch a lot of film said was primed to have an explosive year, looked like Adrian Peterson. The guy found more holes than the gopher from Caddyshack, rushing for 144 yards and a touchdown. The Lions’ pass rush came at Jalen Hurts like an obese family going after a buffet in Disney World. This is not the Detroit Lions of old. It seems to me that they’ve had an Adele-style glow-up.
The Commanders played…eh in week one. They won, and that’s all that matters, but nobody left their victory over the Jaguars thinking Super Bowl or bust. Carson Wentz made two hilariously bad interceptions, some deep throws that left us in awe, and then led his team to a victory. Having Carson Wentz as your quarterback is like watching Breaking Bad for the first time- sometimes you’re so happy with his decisions, and others, you want to get in his face and scream WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING, DUDE? The Commanders’ defense showed up when it mattered, but I wouldn’t say they played particularly well. The receivers, on the other hand, had a great game. Between Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson, that receiving corps is so good that they could catch an STD from a Jehovah’s Witness. Vegas likes the Lions -2.5, and they have it right on this one. The Lions took a big step forward this year, and I’m excited to see them win at least six games. Take the Lions to win, cover, and be sure to get your free $200 from DraftKings!
