Dickie V Announces He’s Battling Cancer Again

It’s time to take a moment to collectively say a prayer for Dick Vitale.

He’s one of the most well-known sports broadcasters of all time, he’s written a bunch of books, appeared in movies, coached basketball at the college and NBA levels, and he’s raised millions and millions of dollars for cancer research through his various foundations, charities, and events. He’s a dude that has been in the spotlight for a really long time, and he’s one of the few that hasn’t turned out to be a complete jerk. In fact, he’s proven over and over that he’s an awesome dude.

Now, at 82, Vitale is battling cancer for the second time in the past few months. Earlier in the summer, he underwent several procedures and surgeries that ended up helping him beat melanoma, which he is now totally clear from. He just the other day was diagnosed with lymphoma. Vitale let fans know via an article published on ESPN Front Row. To read his full statement, here’s the link.

In the article, Vitale writes about the plan to treat his cancer, saying, “The plan is to treat my lymphoma with steroids and six months of chemotherapy. The medical experts tell me it has a 90-percent cure rate. They say I can continue to work so I will have to manage my work schedule around my chemo schedule as they will monitor my test results along the way.”

He then tells all of us that he’s going to fight and beat this cancer, just like he did the last, and thanks everyone who has supported him through these tough times. Honestly, it’s a really awesome statement from a really good dude. He ended by saying, “If you see me, please just give me a fist bump and say a prayer that I can return from being 82 years old to acting like I’m 12. Thanks so much for your love.”
