At this point, I’m very sure I’ve lost most of you. I am confident that about 10% of you know what I’m talking about when I say Leeds United, and another 10% of that can even name a Leeds played, but trust me you’ll want to follow this Premier League Football club and this is why.
First off, Leeds United got a new manager last year who happens to be an American manager, the only one currently in the Premier League. That puts immense pressure on Jesse Marsch, the name of that American Premier League manager, to do well. He hopes to help break the American bias that most British people who follow or are involved in the Premier League seem to have, probably dating back to the Revolutionary War.
And, as if breaking that American bias on the manager side wasn’t good enough for Jesse he also brought in two of the United States’ top eleven players this transfer window. Tyler Adams, and Brenden Aaronson. These two are currently cemented within the lineup that the United States will roll out during this year’s World Cup.
Finally, last year Leeds United were in the relegation battle, meaning they were on the brink of no longer being within the Premier League. So when the two American players were brought in that was an even bigger gamble, considering the biases towards Americans that many have. Because of these biases, it is now believed that Leeds are guaranteed to get relegated this season.
When you put all of this together, you get a team who has two Americans within its starting eleven, an American manager, and last year fighting to stay afloat. This means that if Leeds United this year is able to be confidently in the middle of the table, they will have exceeded expectations. And they will have exceeded those expectations on the backs of the United States. So Leeds’s success in a lot of regards is the United States’ success, and if we have any hope of competing in the World Cup this year, we’re gonna need Leeds to do well. And so far, it’s lookin’ good.
