Xavier against Providence is about to be a great game. Don’t get me wrong, the better of the two teams is Xavier, but man, will this be a fun one to watch at least? Both teams are nationally ranked, and they’re tied for second in the Big East. The implications for this game are massive since the winner will break the tie. As I said before, though, the better team of the two is Xavier.
Providence is a very solid team this season. They’ve played themselves into the 20th rank nationally off of a 21 and 8 record. Neither their record nor ranking is by accident. Bryce Hopkins has been hooping for this team, averaging 16.4 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game. And forward Ed Crosswell has been shooting 62% from the field with 13.3 points per game. So this team has both efficiency and star power. However, they do this silly thing where when they play other solid teams, they seem to disappear. Don’t get me wrong, they down teams like Georgetown with no problem. But it’s like they psyche themselves out when the team they’re playing has some expectations of them.
And Xavier is even more than just a solid team. They’re even higher ranked than Providence at 16th in the nation, with two wins against UConn and an earlier-in-the-season victory against the Friars. Albeit in a close game, a win is a win. The Musketeers have themselves two amazing guards. Both are averaging 4.6 assists per game. Souley Boum, and Colby Jones. The great thing about this pair is that they are both elite playmakers, but one is a lockdown defender, and the other is an offensive weapon. Soulely gets you 16.6 points per game with his assists, while Colby is snagging 1.5 steals per game with his.
Xavier does a better job of playing a consistent game and, thus is a better team with a higher national rank. Bet on Xavier’s moneyline and get your extra $200 in bet credits.
