Get hyped college football fans. This is the inaugural season of the 12-team format of the College Football Playoff. So expect the action to be at an all-time high. Things will kick off with a matchup between the Indiana Hoosiers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Despite boasting an impressive 11-1 record in the regular season, the Fighting Irish were only awarded the number five seed by the selection committee. That likely was due to a shocking upset loss at the hands of Northern Illinois earlier in the season. But that September loss is the only glaring blemish on Notre Dame’s record. They ended the season by winning their last ten games and had key victories against FBS schools such as Florida State and an impressive win over 22nd-ranked Army.
Just like the Fighting Irish, the Indiana Hoosiers ended the season with an 11-1 record, which the selection committee deemed worthy of the eighth seed in the College Football Playoff. First-year head coach Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers won their first ten games of the season before falling to the Ohio State Buckeyes in late November.
So whether you are rooting for a clear favorite or hoping for a miracle by the underdog, the most important thing to remember is that you must be in it to win it.
