Last year, the Alabama Crimson Tide and Michigan Wolverines met in the Rose Bowl as part of the College Football Playoff. This year they’ll meet again in the postseason, with much lower stakes in the 2024 Reliaquest Bowl. However, although the stakes aren’t as high, both programs are seeking big turnarounds in 2025. And a bowl game win this year could be a step in the right direction for next season.
In their first year in the post-Nick Saban era, the Crimson Tide left a lot to be desired. They finished the season with a record of 5-3 in SEC conference play and a record of 9-3 overall with crushing losses to The Vanderbilt Commodores and Oklahoma Sooners — two unranked teams.
After winning the 2023 National Championship, the Michigan Wolverines also struggled following the departure of their head coach Jim Harbaugh. They finished outside the top five in the Big Ten Conference with a dismal 5-4 record in conference play and an overall record of 7.5. However, they did have a big win over sixth-ranked Ohio State to end the regular season.
The Crimson Tide are heavy favorites in this matchup by a 10.5-point margin over the Wolverines. Oddsmakers don’t believe that this matchup will be high-scoring with the over/under marked at 43.5 points.
So whether you are rooting for a clear favorite or hoping for a miracle by the underdog, the most important thing to remember is that you must be in it to win it.
