Coming into the College Football Playoff, one advantage that Ohio State had over the rest of the field was that they were battle-tested. Their final six games of the regular season were against FBS opponents, and three of those schools were ranked in the top 20. That has paid dividends for them so far. After crushing the Tennessee Volunteers in the first round by a score of 42-17, they followed up by dominating Oregon — the top team in the country all season.
After having a regular season record of 11-2 the Texas Longhorns have continued to display their dominance in the postseason. They beat the 16-ranked Clemson Tigers 38-24 in the first round and escaped a heroic performance by the Arizona State Sun Devils with an eight-point victory. Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers had one of his best performances of the season in that game, throwing for 322 yards and three touchdowns.
The oddsmakers believe the matchup between Texas and Ohio State will be competitive. The Buckeyes come in as the favorites in this matchup by a 5.5-point margin over the Longhorns. Oddsmakers also believe that this matchup will be a high-scoring affair with the over/under marked at 53.5 points.
So whether you are rooting for a clear favorite or hoping for a miracle by the underdog, the most important thing to remember is that you must be in it to win it.
