Fans Rip Chiefs Star Chris Jones For Crying During Super Bowl National Anthem

After a long bye week following the conference championship games, the Philadelphia Eagles will take on the defending NFL champion Kansas City Chiefs in a highly anticipated rematch of Super Bowl 57. And with the Cheifs eyeing a historic third straight NFL title, the stakes could not possibly be any higher in this matchup.

Fans had their fans ruffled before the big game even kicked off. During the National Anthem, Fox Cameras caught Chiefs star Chris Jones crying. It was much to the chagrin of NFL fans on social media.

“Such a cringe gimmick,” one fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“That version of the National Anthem never once fave me chills. That version didn’t do not for me. Awful performance,” another person added.

Chris Jones Gets Honest About National Anthem

Chiefs star pass rusher Chris Jones is known for his ravenous play style on the field. But before the action kicks off on the field, Jones often lets viewers in on his emotional side. Jones is often teary-eyed during the singing of the National Anthem, which has earned him some criticism from some fans in the past.

Ahead of the big game Jones revealed why the Star Spangled Banner gets him so choked up.

“Quick story. I was watching the movie ‘300.’ One of my favorite movies, you know? Right before they go into battle, you have some like crying, because they’re so mad. They’re going to war,” he said to Fox.

“In the sense of playing football, I actually go into that mind frame, like, I might not make it home tonight – knowing I’m going to make it home, but knowing I’m going to war. It’s going to get bloody. It’s going to get physical. I might not make it out. I might make it out.

Jones also added that he is also reviewing the path that he took to get to that very moment leading up to the game, which also can be a tear-jerker.

“I’m also retracing and going over all the obstacles it took me to get here, in a sense. Thinking about that, all that manifesting,” Jones added. “Tears start rolling because I’m so angry. I’m going through so many emotions. Anything (negative) somebody said like, three weeks ago, I’m remembering. I’m just full of emotions.”
