NFL Sunday Preview: Cowboys/Jets

The Cowboys make their first of two trips to the Meadowlands this year as they gear up to take on the Jets in a Week 5 matchup.

Dallas is coming off a Sunday Night game against the Packers that can only be described as “one of the football games of all time.” Jokes aside, the 40–40 tie was one of the most entertaining matchups of the year. While the media spent the week focused on Micah Parsons’ return to Dallas, the story of the night was Dak Prescott’s elite play — torching Green Bay for 319 yards, 3 touchdowns, and a rushing score, all while posting a near-perfect passer rating.

The Cowboys have been a tale of two teams this season. They currently boast the league’s best offense, leading the NFL in total yards per game and ranking sixth in points per game entering Week 5. Defensively, however, they’ve been a disaster — allowing the most yards per game and tied for the league-worst in touchdowns allowed (16).

The Jets, on the other hand, enter Sunday with even less optimism. They’re coming off a Week 4 Monday Night loss in Miami, where the Dolphins — a team many labeled one of the league’s weakest — handled them 27–21.

To make matters worse, quarterback Justin Fields frustrated fans after the game with his postgame comments:

“We’re blessed, at the end of the day. You look at the bigger picture in life — we’re getting paid well to play a child’s sport.”

While Fields isn’t wrong, it’s not exactly the mentality fans want to hear from a QB on a struggling team desperate for a win.

This sets up a matchup both teams desperately want to win. Vegas thinks this stays a close game, giving the Jets +1.5 on the spread and the Cowboys a -125 ML. DraftKings  has set the O/U at 47.5.

BEST BET: Dallas is dealing with injury concerns heading into this one — missing three starting offensive linemen and star receiver CeeDee Lamb for the third straight game. Still, I can’t bring myself to trust the Jets’ offense, so I’m rolling with Dallas -1.5 and would take it up to -2.5.
