NFL Sunday Preview: Titans/Cardinals
The Titans travel to the desert this Sunday still searching for their first win of the season against the Cardinals.
Tennessee comes into this game as, objectively, the worst team in football. That’s not just outside opinion — it’s straight from rookie QB Cam Ward, who told reporters after their Week 4 loss, “If we keep it a buck right now, we ass.”
To his credit, Ward has been solid for a rookie thrown into the starting role from Day 1. But the rest of the Titans roster has been flat-out bad. The defense can’t get stops, the offensive line is leaky, and head coach Brian Callahan already finds himself on the hot seat.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals have been what you might call “impressively average.” They opened the season with close wins over the Saints and Panthers but have since dropped back-to-back games against division rivals San Francisco and Seattle.
Injuries have hit Arizona hard, especially in the backfield. James Conner’s season ended after a gruesome foot injury against the 49ers, and now backup Trey Benson is on injured reserve too. That’s left Kyler Murray shouldering more of the offensive load.
Now in his seventh season, Murray has yet to win a playoff game, and while the Cardinals could sneak into the postseason, it’s tough to see them making much noise if they get there.
Vegas thinks this stays a close game, giving the Jets +7.5 on the spread and the Cardinals a -425 ML. DraftKings has set the O/U at 41.5.
BEST BET: The Titans are a bad football team — but they’re not completely hopeless. They’ve hung tough against decent opponents this year, and I think they’ll do just enough to keep this one close. I’m taking Tennessee +7.5 to cover.
