Thanksgiving and football.
Just seeing those words together fires up any self-respecting American. It is our duty as Americans to watch the Macy’s Parade, play against your little cousins in some two-hand touch, eat as much food as you possibly can, and then watch the NFL. As if you didn’t need more incentive, this year’s Thanksgiving slate promises to be one of the best in recent memory. Let’s break down the matchups.
Packers (+2.5) at Lions (-148)
A Week 1 rematch kicks off the Thanksgiving slate as the Packers take on the Lions. Few would have guessed that neither team would be leading the NFC North heading into Thanksgiving (da Bears currently holding that spot) but both remain well within striking distance of Chicago and firmly in the playoff hunt. Week 1 saw the Packers steamroll the Lions in Green Bay, but Green Bay hasn’t looked nearly as sharp in recent weeks, notably losing to Carolina two weeks ago. Detroit is trending in a better direction, but a difficult schedule still has them holding on to the final playoff spot for now.
Chiefs (-185) at Cowboys (+3.5)
Dallas enters its annual Thanksgiving game coming off not only its best win of the year, but genuinely one of the franchise’s greatest wins of all time. After falling behind 21–0 in the second quarter, Dallas rallied to win 24–21 on a last-second field goal. The Cowboys have only a 9% chance to make the playoffs, so a win here feels necessary to keep hope alive. The Chiefs got a much-needed win, both logically and emotionally, this past Sunday against a dominant Colts team. Both teams will look to keep the good vibes rolling.
Bengals (+7) at Ravens (-360 ML)
The night game promises to at least deliver on some major storylines when the Bengals go to Baltimore for an AFC North showdown. The story here is that Burrow is expected to make his first start since September as the Bengals seek to return to the playoffs. They have their work cut out for them as the Ravens, who started 1–5, have won five straight after righting the ship. While Baltimore has more room for a loss here, they still want to keep their division lead over Pittsburgh. Expect a high-scoring game in an offensive showdown.
