The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs are set to square off in the Super Bowl in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9. With the two best teams in the NFL set to do battle, tonight was expected to be full of surprising moments. However, one of those moments took place before the teams took the field.
Moss Gets Emotional During Return to ESPN Desk
Ahead of the big game, Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss returned to his position as co-host of Sunday NFL countdown. Upon his return, Moss’s ESPN colleagued put together a video tribute that brought the former NFL star to tears.
“Y’all already know it’s the big cry, baby,” Moss said as he wiped tears from his eyes following the video tribute.
“Hey y’all, I can’t do it alone. It’s been hard, but I got a lot of love and a lot of people believe in me, man. I’m happy to be here.”
For those who may be tardy to the party, Moss took a leave of absence from the network toward the end of last year. This happened after fans noticed Moss’s eyes had a yellow color during a November taping of the show. The following week Moss appeared on ESPN wearing sunglasses to mask his eye color and shortly after would announce that he was facing a battle with liver cancer.
“So I did have cancer,” Moss said during a 2024 Instagram live. “They found it in the bile duct right between the pancreas and the liver, and that the cancer was sitting right outside the bile duct.”
Bill Belichick Gets Honest on Former Patriots Star
Moss has remained optimistic during his treatment and has spoken candidly about the outpouring of support that he has received in the wake of his diagnosis. One of the people who has been outspoken about his support of Moss has been his former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who referred to the Hall of Famer as a “tremendous human being.”
“Randy Moss is a tremendous person and human being,” Belichick said.
“He was a great player to coach, fun player to coach, and an extremely competitive and good football player.”
