The fact that both of these teams are battling for relevancy is gonna make this game so much better. These two teams are both so used to being top of the heap as basketball programs that they are willing to do whatever it takes to get into March Madness this season. Making the wins, they get against the teams they play that much more important. Expect this game to be chippy, well-fought, and incredibly entertaining.
UNC has a few things going for them this game. The first is that they’re playing at home, If they were playing at Duke, this game would sway heavily to the Blue Devils only because of how gross they’ve been at home this season. The other thing going for them is some big wins in recent games. Specifically the one against Virginia. That momentum will be huge for them as the season winds down. Armando Bacot has been great for this team as well. Averaging 16.5 points per game, and 10.8 rebounds per game. It can’t hurt to have a reliable double-double in most games, no matter what team you’re playing.
Duke has been on a solid winning streak lately, with their last five games all being dubs. It also doesn’t hurt at all that the last time these teams played, Duke did win, albeit only by six. Kyle Filipowski will be a first-round pick in the upcoming draft, and for a good reason. He’s averaging 14.8 points per game, 9.0 rebounds per game, and 1.2 steals per game. Leading the Blue Devils in every single one of those categories. Duke has a second first-round prospect in Dereck Lively II, who has been less impressive in my opinion but has been a rim-protecting beast. He’s averaging 2.3 blocks per game as though he’s a ball magnet around his own rim.
With these two teams both vying for relevancy, anything is possible. I think I’m liking Duke in this matchup, mostly for the fact that Dereck did get eight blocks against the Tar Heels the last time these two teams met. Bet on Duke’s moneyline and get your extra $200 in bet credits.
