So despite their less than stellar record, the Tigers of Detroit are still in the hunt for that divisional lead. They’re only nine games back with plenty of baseball left to be played. As of now they’re the favorites at least for game one. While the offense is one of the worst in the league, Detroit has an alright defense. The Tigers have been very good in their own division, and should really hope to continue that streak if they want to play postseason baseball. Riley Greene has been a bright spot on this team, as have Kerry Carpenter and Eduardo Rodriguez. Will that be enough to compete with the Guardians?
If you ask me I would say probably not. The Guardians have on paper a better offense and defense, as well as a much better chance to make the playoffs which gives them more of a reason to play hard. In terms of runs allowed the Guardians are tied as the best defense in the entire MLB. Eight players on the Guardians roster are hitting .250 or above which is again pretty solid. Sure he might be hurt now but Josh Naylor has been a stud as has the uninjured Jose Ramirez. In terms of pitching Bieber has still got it and Tanner Bibee has been great. I think the Guardians are a more well rounded team with more motivation and should be able to win this series.
