The line opens favoring the Hokies by 8.5 points, an inconvenient line for us gamblers. After a season more “middle of the pack” than Kirk Cousins (6-6), VT brought in a ton of transfers to bolster their lineup, including experienced QB Grant Wells and wide receiver Jadan Blue. Their defense remains similar to last season, with a strong pass rush and good linebackers. The only question in that defense are the DBs, losing Jermaine Waller could hurt.
On the other hand, Old Dominion is the new kid on the block. After struggling in the CUSA the Monarchs move to the more competitive Sun Belt. Old Dominion is bringing back a lot of their offense, which could be an issue as they were not fantastic last year. They also will be missing a lot of role players on the defensive side of the ball, and I think VT will take advantage of this. The Hokies soundly defeated the Monarchs last time they met, and just like a failed relationship, I don’t think it’ll be any different this time around.
