After a strong start petered out to a disappointing end to the Cavaliers season in 2021, they look to open their 2022 campaign with a win over the Spiders at home in Scott Stadium. Both teams squeaked out 6 wins last year, but I’ll show how these teams are just not on the same level.

The Spiders threw 24 points on the board per game last year while letting up 20. They’re returning a lot of key players and had a strong end to their season last year, but the CAA and the ACC are different animals when it comes to football divisions. Virginia was able to average over 34 and a half points a game, while allowing 31.8. They’re getting their 4,400 yard 31 touchdown QB back, along with a receiver duo who had a combined 2,100 yards and 11 touchdowns. That’s not all, they’re getting back almost all of their contributors from last season, and could really make a push for the ACC title this season.

A big hole that will be hard for Richmond to fill is the loss of their star D-lineman, Kobie Turner. Turner was three-time all CAA and his transfer to Wake Forest could really take a toll on the Spiders’ defense. I really think that this veteran Virginia squad will be able to take advantage of a weakened and struggling Richmond team, starting off their fairly easy home season with a tone-setting win. Look for the Cavaliers to squish the spiders, and don’t forget to place your +1000 odds bet for the chance to win $500!
