There is absolutely no reason why everyone shouldn’t be watching the Ohio State against Purdue game on Thursday. Both of these teams are going to be making deep pushes in March, and both teams have been playing lights out. However, I’m liking the Ohio State Buckeyes to win against the Boilermakers this week.
Purdue is a great college basketball team. They just lost their first game of the season this past Monday, which is pretty ridiculous. However, it was a bad loss to Rutgers. They only managed to put up 64 points, getting beat by a team who scored 65. That’s not a great offensive showing, especially considering that Ohio State has held teams to as low as 43 points this season. As much as I think that Ohio State has all the momentum going into this game, I would like to shout out Zach Edey, who has been on a different level this season. He’s been averaging 21.7 points per game, 13.4 rebounds per game, and 2.2 blocks per game. And while those are crazy numbers, if he puts up another quiet nineteen-point game and leads his team in turnovers, there is no way Purdue can win.
Ohio State goes into this matchup with a three-game win streak. They are firing on all cylinders right now. Plus, between you and me, they are the only one of these two teams with a win against Rutgers. Ohio’s strength is that they are actually a basketball team. They don’t just give the ball to one player (Zach Edey), and pray to any and every God that the player cooks. The Buckeyes have double the amount of players scoring in the double digits per game as Purdue has. They are a team of multiple weapons. They can give the ball to Brice Sensabaugh, Justice Sueing, Zed Key, or Bruce Thornton. Any of these guys can go off for a huge game at any point. Purdue has nothing like that, if Zach is quiet, they stink.
