The British open is an iconic major that has left the golf world with some incredible memories over the years, and it returns to St. Andrews for the 29th time in the history of the event. Personally, this is one of my favorite courses because of the scenery and all of the history, and I expect this year to be an unreal tournament. This is a major where in the past five events only two elite golfers have won, which leads to some great value. For example Shawn Lowry, the 2019 winner, started the tournament at 80-1 odds, and Collin Morikawa 30-1 odds in last years tournament.
There’s a few guys that I think have a great chance to win outright starting with Scottie Scheffler. At (+1800) Scottie has been on a tear this year. He won the Masters back in April and finished as the runner-up in the US Open. This is a safe bet, and a guy that you know will show up. Another guy with a great shot to win, and an upcoming star, is Will Zalatoris. He is (+2500) and has finished top ten in every major he has played in so far, and in addition to that he’s finished in the top five at five different events since March of this year. He is on the come up and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins his first major this weekend.
Lastly, a longshot that I like is Tony Finau at (+5000). He is not one of the favorites, but his play recently has been impressive. He has three top five finishes, and has been in the hunt the last three British Opens. I wouldn’t throw the house on him, but he is a guy that has great value and is trending in the right direction. But no matter the outcome of the tournament, we are all winners with this offer. So let’s sit back, relax, and watch some great golf.
