The Maryland Terrapins ended their regular season with two rough losses and came into the first round of the Big-10 tournament with no momentum. That all changed when they took down Minnesota last night. The Terps are looking to take some confidence from this win into their next matchup against Indiana. While Maryland was dominant at home this season, going 16-1, they struggled on the road going 2-9. Even though they proved themselves last night, I still think they are going to struggle in the rest of the Big Ten tournament. It seems Maryland has been falling just short all season. Not only did Jahmir Young fall short of making first-team all-conference, but their loss to Penn State dropped them from the second seed in the conference tournament to the sixth. This just shows that this basketball team does not have what it takes to beat the Hoosiers.
The 21-10 Indiana Hoosiers beat their rival, Purdue, twice in the last month, and considering Indiana hasn’t ranked above them since 2019, that’s a pretty big win. They also ended their regular season with an overtime win against Michigan. The only concern I have for IU is that they have alternated wins and losses for the last seven games. If there’s one thing I know about college basketball in the month of March, it’s that losses won’t get you far. One thing that will get you far in March is Trayce Jackson-Davis. Not only is he one of two unanimous All-Big Ten performers this season, but he also set new IU career rebounding and blocked shot records. He is going to lock down the paint, and I just do not think Maryland has the offensive prowess to put up points. On the other side of the floor, Davis currently averages 20.5 points per game. He is a dual threat that is going to bring the Terps to their knees.
