This game is going to be gnarly. It’s going to be an absolute old western shootout between these teams. Pitt’s slugfest they had against Mississippi State had my knuckles white the entire game. But I suspect Iowa State will prevail.
As I said Pitt had a very close game against the other 11th seed in Mississippi State. Nelly Cummings was busting loads all over the court, as he dropped 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Accompanied by another brilliant performance by Greg Elliot who dropped 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Pitt’s offense was top-tier, however, Guillermo Diaz Graham’s clutch defense was a big help in their win as well. Graham had 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks, one of them helping them secure the win in the last minute of the game. While you got to give it to Pitt’s starters for phenomenal performances, you also have to give it to Nike Sibande. The man dropped 11 points, 5 damn rebounds, and 1 assist. For a game where every point mattered, this was a close one. Although, this team will not make it past Iowa State.
Iowa State. The boys. They got this game in the bag. After dropping the ball to Kansas a few days back, Iowa is eager to get back on the floor and let them know who’s boss. They have faced some real talent in Kansas and can use that experience to beat anyone. And that anyone is Pitt. Iowa States’ one bright spot in the loss to Kansas was Jaren Holmes 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals he had. Other than that Kansas’ defense was lockdown and superstars on Iowa State like Tre King and Robert Jones were unable to score. However, prior to the Kansas game, these guys went off with points, rebounds, and assists. I expect nothing less than Iowa to beat Pitt in this matchup and I cannot wait to see it happen.
