Virginia Tech versus UMiami. One would think, based on the record and national ranking, that this is a game that the Hurricanes win outright. But when you really look into the players and the way each of their seasons has developed, you’ll see that these teams are much closer in skill level than you’d imagine. And I, for one, think that Virginia Tech actually has a great chance of straight-up winning this game.

Now the Miami Hurricanes have been good this season; there is no way to argue around that. Their record is 22 and 5, and they have wins against solid opponents. However, we can’t forget this is an ACC matchup, and with inter-conference play, anything can happen. I will say there are a couple of players on this team that scare me. Both Isaiah Wong and Norchad Omier are hoopers. Isaiah is leading the team in both points per game and assists per game, even though that assist per game number is only 3.5. And Norchad has been locking it down in between the blocks pulling down 9.8 boards per game, putting him at 16th in the nation in that stat.

However, there is something about this Hokies team that has me believing they will pull out the dub. Maybe it’s their star forward Grant Basile who has been averaging 16.7 points per game and 1.4 blocks per game showcasing both his defensive and offensive prowess. Maybe it’s the fact that there are two players with a higher assist per-game average than Isaiah Wong on Virginia Tech. Portraying a disparity in ball movement and potentially a greater sense of camaraderie on this Hokies team. Or maybe it’s just me believing in an underdog story.

Whatever the case may be, I do believe that statistically, there isn’t much that separates these two teams. The Hokies have a much better team than their record suggests, so bet on Virginia Tech’s moneyline and get your extra $200 if the Hokies win.
