After Ben Mathurin’s performance against TCU, you can’t tell me that he isn’t the best player left in the tournament. As an avid Wildcats bettor, things got a little close for my liking with Arizona giving up an uncharacteristic ten rebounds, but the boys pulled through. The only thing that scares me about Arizona coming into the sweet sixteen is that they heavily benefited from the electric crowds in San Diego chanting “U of A,” “You can’t do that,” etc. There are a lot of families in San Diego who have a hot nineteen-year-old daughter that attends the University of Arizona, and that isn’t the case in San Antonio, Texas.
I’ve underlooked Houston all year because they weren’t tested much before their most recent win against Illinois; the Cougs also fell twice to Memphis. The most impressive thing about Houston’s win over the Fighting I was that they got the job done even though their first options, Kyler Edwards and Fabian White, had more trouble scoring than a divorced guy with a drug problem and a gut. However, Arizona’s five has the edge over four players in Houston’s starting lineup. The Wildcats are too quick, strong, and good at getting the ball into the basket not to make the final four. If anyone was going to upset them, it would have been a TCU team with all the momentum in the world. Take Arizona.
