The Mets and the Padres are very similar: great starting rotations, the best players on both teams are injured, and both fan bases are skeptical of recent success because they’ve had their hearts ripped out more times than an average Lil Peep listener. The Padres probably have more upside because they are currently a top-three defensive team in baseball, and many of their key bats haven’t even come to life yet (even though Luke Voit did hit a homer last night). Do I think the Mets can maintain THIS level of situational hitting/driving in runners on base? Not necessarily, but even if their production was to dip slightly, they would still be a top-five team in baseball. You just can’t bet against the New York Mets right now. With Walker and Bassitt taking the mound, I think the Mets might be able to sweep this series.
