No offense to Michigan, but this is Virginia’s game to lose. A top-five team against an unranked team is usually one-sided unless it’s during March Madness. And even then, the worst teams in that tournament are at least ranked. So yea, not looking good for Michigan.
Now Michigan hasn’t been playing poorly, 5-1 on the season with some hard-fought wins, but against who? Against an unranked Ohio team, the Wolverines went to overtime and had to be saved by some heroics from center Hunter Dickinson. Speaking of which, this kid has been playing out of his mind. He’s averaging 18.5 points while shooting 60% from the field. Not to mention 9.5 rebounds and 1.8 blocks. So not only is he killing your favorite team on the offensive end, but he’s probably gonna block your favorite player on the defensive end. Besides Hunter, though, I don’t know who the Wolverines turn to. Kobe Bufkin has been trying his best, leading the team in assists and steals, but he doesn’t seem to be able to offer much in the points category, with only 9.2 points per game.
Virginia, on the other hand, hasn’t lost, with wins against actually ranked teams. They’ve beaten 7th-ranked Baylor and 16th-ranked Illinois. Kadin Shedrick has been putting on a show, shooting 74% from the field on over 11 points per game. Not to mention the fact that he’s tied for most rebounds per game on the team, absolutely killing the paint. Reece Beekman is also having a season so far, averaging over two steals a game while also leading the team in assists.
