This game is gonna be a slugfest, and I cannot wait for it. Two teams who are currently in the top ten rankings for NCAA Basketball. That is a ridiculous early Christmas gift. While I do love the Volunteer’s approach to basketball in death by a thousand papercuts, I’m leaning toward Arizona winning this game.
As I said, I do love the game plan that Tennessee seems to have adopted, in which they love all members of their starting five, so why not share the rock? In terms of scoring, Tennessee’s top scorer Julian Philips is only averaging 1.5 points per game more than their fifth-highest scorer Zakai Zeigler. And all of their top five scorers are in the double digits for scoring. Speaking of Julian Philips, this kid has been on a tear. He is leading the Volunteers in both scoring and rebounding categories so far this season, and it looks like he has no desire to slow down. I would like him to either slow down with the threes or work more on his shot, shooting only 21.1% from three so far this season, but in terms of down in the post, Julian is a beast.
Arizona is interesting because they also have their top five scorers in the double digits for points per game, but their gap between the highest and lowest in that category is ten points. That’s because they have a legitimate two-tower lineup. Azuolis Tubelis and Oumar Ballo are real, and they are not going anywhere. Azuolis is averaging 20.2 points per game and 1.1 steals per game, leading the team in both categories. And the only reason that he isn’t also leading the Wildcats in rebounds is that he’s got another big bruiser down there with him in Oumar. Oumar has been pulling down 9.4 rebounds per game and is averaging almost two blocks per game. I mean, these two guys are so good, and they play for the same team; I can’t believe in this Arizona team while these two guys are healthy.
The two bruisers down on the blocks for Arizona are going to be too much for Tennessee to handle. Their dominance will propel the Wildcats to a victory over the Volunteers, so bet on Arizona’s Moneyline to get $150 back if you pick the winner with DraftKings!
