Oh yea, I’m loving this matchup. Tennessee against Kentucky has a great game written all over it. But there is one thing to consider before placing your bets. While Kentucky carries the name recognition, this has not been one of the Kentucky teams of old. And Tennessee has been on a tear this season, so when you look at those betting sites, I’d take a much longer look at Tennessee because they’re beating the Wildcats.
Now Kentucky has been a solid team. I mean, they’re Kentucky, so, of course, they’re gonna at least be making noise, but let’s not confuse that noise for anything real. So far this season, they’ve been ten and six, with no wins against ranked teams. That’s especially not great when you notice that Tennessee is ranked fifth in the country right now. Now unranked Kentucky has some guys who are playing well. Oscar Tshiebwe has been averaging 16.0 points per game, 13.1 rebounds per game, 1.6 steals per game, and 1.2 blocks per game. That’s a pretty gross double-double stat line. And somehow, he only leads his team in two of those categories.
The Volunteers, on the other hand, have been what some would call dominant so far this season. They’ve got themselves a fourteen-and-two record with no thoughts of slowing down. In terms of individual play, Zakai Zeigler has been a great lockdown guard for this team. He’s been handing 4.4 assists per game and grabbing 2.2 steals per game. That steals stat has him in the top 25 in the entire country. Never bad to have a defensive player that good. Plus, this team is elite at beating you with everyone on this team. No one on the roster has been shooting under 35% from the field, and even then, only three players are shooting below 40%. That’s some pretty ridiculous efficiency.
